Punk is a genre of music and punk rock is a sub-genre. The punk culture includes fashion styles, punk fashion; art forms such as punk literature, punk films etc.
Punk was developed in North America and the United Kingdom . What became known as punk began in the 1960s with garage bands (i.e. The Sonics) playing sped up 1960s rock n roll, accompanied by some simple guitar riffs, political and social attitudes and nihilistic lyrics. Later punk styles included more sophisticated styles such as avant-garde punk, art punk and pop punk etc., After 1980 many post-punk styles appeared: hardcore punk , thrashcore , riot grrrl , no wave , grindcore etc.
